Why Black Hat Society…

When I moved to Texas from Kansas I did so with the intention of living my life authentically. My son had moved down here before me by about 6 months before he started asking me to move down here to be closer to him. I had tried Texas before when he was a baby and that was a disaster. I was not looking forward to a repeat of that at all.

It tooks months of him nagging at me before I even began to entertain the idea of a move away from my native area.

Right before the decision was made I talked to him and gave him the stipulation; I will not hide in the broom closet any longer for my spiritual belief. His response was basically IDGAF so the decision was made. He lived in NRH at the time (still does) and worked in Arlington. He managed a mini storage facility that had a managers apartment. I moved into it and watched over things after hours.

While living there I was asked to join a coven and like the people in it and thought it was a good fit. One of the members had formed the idea of starting a metaphysical store in Arlington with ideas from the “High Priestess” of the coven.

After attending one of the classes at the store I was driving back one evening and had an idea. The metroplex needed a resource for those on a Pagan path. I got back to the apartment and did some research. Found out there was an organization called the “Black Hat Society” who would do charitable works for Pagans but there was no local chapter. Research showed no Black Hat Societies in Texas and that the closest was in New Orleans.

At that time I wanted to launch DFW BHS but did not have the funds to get it registered as a true 501c3.

This was in 2015. Now fast forward to 2020. Funds were better so it was time to kick off DFW BHS then Covid hit….

I took a year to continue to save up money for BHS and build up Hoodoo Priestess and in 2021 hired the lawyer and got the 501c3 paperwork turned in with the IRS and the State of Texas to form not DFW BHS but the Texas Black Hat Society.

It is the goal of TXBHS to encourage local chapters to form throughout the state of Texas to be a resource for those who do not attend church every Sunday and feel shuned by those same organizations because of their beliefs. There will be chances to volunteer, donate, or join to truly help make a difference in Texas.
